Al Día youth soccer tournament to debut in AugustAl Día, the Spanish-language publication of The Dallas Morning News, will officially announce today that it is launching a youth soccer tournament in August.

Copa Al Día, for players ages 12-16, will be played at the Bob Weisman Sports Complex in Lewisville on Aug. 9-17.

"We are proud to put together Copa Al Día, which will serve as an additional link between Al Día with its strong tradition of providing sports news, to the fast-growing Hispanic community that follows soccer in the area," Al Día publisher Alejandro Sanchez Sobrino said.

"This tournament will enable young players to participate in a highly visible event which could lead to been discovered by various school coaches and potential clubs."

The event will field 48 teams, made up of boys and girls clubs in North Texas. Prosport, a promotional company headed by former Mexican national team player Enrique Borja, will help organize Copa Al Día.

"This tournament will offer opportunities for young soccer players to demonstrate their talent ... and aspire to follow a career as an athlete, or to have a chance at a scholarship through soccer," said Borja, who is also president of the Monterrey club Tigres.

The cost per team is $350 and includes uniforms for the 20 players on each team. Each team will play a minimum of three matches.

Copa Al Día will take place on consecutive weekends in August.
